Manorhouse Builders of SC

Manor House Builders is a family owned business that started in Maryland in 1992. The president of the company, Hilton Smith Jr., got his start in commercial development in the late 70’s and through the acquisition of a farm in Maryland, started his entry into residential real estate building entry level homes. The company was also the developer of the land, which has continued to be the model of operation. The first community, Cross Creek, in Hagerstown, Maryland had approximately 300 homes. The company is still building in another part of this farm called Carriage Hill. Carriage Hill are “move-up” homes, with prices ranging from $225,000 for townhouses to $500,000 for single family detached. The company expanded into Falling Waters, West Virginia in 1998 with the acquisition of a development known as Amberfield. This 300 acre community is designed for larger lots and is priced from $250,000 to $550,000. There is a section set aside for some townhouses in the future as well. Other West Virginia communities include Nestle Bluff, Nestle Woods, and Honeywood. In 2003, Hilton Smith started up a South Carolina building company, Manorhouse Builders of SC with his sons. While not operating under the name of Manorhouse at the time, Hilton Smith was involved with a few entry level townhouse projects before this, both as developer and builder. Those projects included a 50 townhouse neighborhood in Mt. Pleasant called Eastwood Townhomes, and a 350 townhouse community on James Island called Meridian Place. In 2005, Manorhouse started building townhomes in Ashley Park. This project has 150 of the 350 homes finished and continues to be competitively priced in the $150,000 to $190,000 range. Product includes “on- grade” units as well as drive-under garage units with two or three bedrooms. The community is conveniently located off of the Glenn McConnell Parkway next to West Ashley High School. In 2008, Manorhouse started building its first single family detached homes in South Carolina with Fieldview in Summerville. The company has built several handcrafted and designed homes in the upper $200,000's in this neo-traditional neighborhood. The owners were also the developers of this community which is surrounded by the Gahagan Plantation Community Park off of Gahagan Road. Manorhouse Builders remains an active part of the Lowcountry community and prides itself on building quality, affordable and unique homes.
